Duffy attends first Local Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates Task Force public meeting
The Local Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates Task Force held its first official public meeting on March 26 in Springfield. Called to order by Lt. Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti, State Senator Dan Duffy (R-Lake Barrington) joined elected officials, township assessors, school district presidents and other task force appointees to discuss how to increase government efficiency and reduce costs.
Outlining the task force’s objectives and introducing members were the main agenda items for the first meeting. It was established that the goals of the task force are to develop ways to alleviate the burden on Illinois taxpayers by consolidating the nearly 7,000 units of government in Illinois and reducing the number of unfunded mandates on local governments.
Several task force members expressed the need for “smart consolidation” and not just consolidating to consolidate. Many echoed that local leaders need to inform taxpayers on where their tax dollars are being spent and disclose where there are potential cost-savings. As a member of the task force, Senator Duffy will continue to propose ideas on how to shrink the size and cost of government in Illinois.
Following each meeting, Senator Duffy will provide the PowerPoint and agenda points that were discussed on his website. Click here to access his Local Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates Task Force portal on his website.
